Giltbrook looking forward too lowering their carbon foot print with new 50 kw Solar panel system
Giltbrook Workwear have been working in partnership with the University of Nottingham to help reduce our energy consumption and subsequently our environmental impact. A large part of this was looking at the potential for Solar panel system to generate electricity. Working with the University we discovered that by using solar energy we could save over 43000 kw per annum. The University did a full assessment of our facility , evaluating the exisiting useage profile against potential solar generation ,calculating over 70% of solar electricity that would be generated could be used within the the running of the laundry. In total, their research found that we could save over one third the present annual electricity useage, saving energy costs and reducing our carbon foot print by 23.5 tonnes year on year helping us to meet our carbon reduction targets and reduce our impact on the environment.
With this evidence, we approached the Carbon Trust who helped in drawing up a tender to short list Solar installers and the Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council’s D2 Energy Efficiency team to look at potential funding for the installation of the Solar panels. The D2EE Team work with local businesses to help improve energy efficiency and provided an additional report on the benefits of Solar Panel 50kw system. The results of the report spoke for themselves and we are pleased to announce that with money from the European Regional Development Fund the D2EE Team agreed to help us fund the installation. The funding has been welcomed to support the new Solar Panel installation at Giltbrook due to go live over the summer of 2018.
We continue to work with the University of Nottingham to further reduce our environmental impact. Currently we our exploring the benefits of what the solar panel system could offer including Electric Vehicle charging for our fleet of vehicles collecting and delivering the Workwear Rental Services around the Midlands.
